“The last month has definitely been tough. There hasn’t been a span in my entire life where I’ve gone this long without playing baseball.
“Even though we were quarantined, I still found time to throw with my brother [Nick] and my teammate, Ben Hernandez.
“I was very positive that there would be a season until the Illinois High School Association canceled the remainder of the basketball playoffs. I felt that was unfair to all the guys who worked their butts off all season and got so close to a title game only to have it taken away.
“It’s hard that I don’t have my senior season, but I can only imagine how much worse it would be if it got taken away during a playoff run.
“The feeling of not getting your senior season can’t be described. Upset would be an understatement. You feel like it’s not fair, waking up four times a week at 5 a.m. for workouts and doing all of that work just for the season to get canceled. Especially with the expectations that our team had for this upcoming season and the opportunity of winning a state championship, it can’t be put into words how much it hurts.
“My time at De La Salle [DLS] is something I will never forget. In the classroom and on the field, I created friendships and bonds that will last a lifetime. There is not another high school in the entire state that will give you the family atmosphere that DLS does. The teachers and coaches are always looking out for you and making sure you excel.
“I am forever grateful for DLS, and do not know how I could repay them for what they did for me in my four years.”
