Police alerted residents in West Beverly about an attempted kidnapping.
On Thursday, Feb. 25, a 12-year-old girl was walking on the 10300 block of South Campbell Avenue when a man driving an older model vehicle attempted to lure the girl to his car, police said in a community alert.
The victim was able to run to a neighbor, who drove her home, but this was not the girl's first encounter with the man, the alert stated. According to the girl, the same man drove past her a couple of days earlier, as she walked home from school, and continued driving east on 103rd Street, police said.
The suspect was described as a white man, 40 to 49 years old, with blond hair, police said. He drove a dark green, four-door vehicle, police said. The make and model of the vehicle was unknown.
Police alerted residents to be aware of the situation and keep neighbors informed. If possible, children are urged not to walk alone and stay in well-lit areas. Residents are encouraged to call 911 to report any suspicious people, vehicles or activity in the neighborhood and supply police with a description and license plate information.
For more information on how to avoid being a victim of crime, residents should call the CAPS Implementation Office at (312) 747-9987.
Anyone with more information about the suspect should call the Area Two Detective Division at (312) 745-5900.
