Kennelly scholarship winners

Despite the public health crisis, the Kevin F. Kennelly Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund was still able to present scholarships to several freshmen at Mt. Carmel High School. An annual golf outing supporting the fund will take place Saturday, Oct. 10.

The seventh annual Nelly Open, named after late Beverly teen Kevin Kennelly, will be held Saturday, Oct. 10, at Gleneagles Country Club, beginning at 10 a.m.
There are 240 golfers signed up, and the event is being organized by Kennelly's friends, including Jack O'Connell, Frank Kelly, Gavin Grant, Mario LoVerde, Jack Ragen, Carolyn Hughes and Kristen Meyer.
Proceeds support the Kevin F. Kennelly Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund, which benefits students at Mt. Carmel High School, which Kennelly attended.
Despite fundraising events being curtailed due to the public health crisis, the fund awarded several scholarships totaling $27,000 to several freshmen who began at Mt. Carmel this school year. The recipients included Jake Breakey, Ryan Walsh, Jalil Tate, Tim Christie, Josh Sullivan, Tim Daigler, Vince Winters, Anthony Wiseman, Jacob Ferguson, Kevin Gardner, Colin McKeown, Joe Chirillo, Tommy Sheerin, Ryan Wingate, Nathan Alfultis, Luke Spatz and Joe Nolan.
Kennelly died nine years ago. A 16-inch softball tournament and White Sox outing are among the annual fundraisers usually held in support of the scholarship fund. Organizers said they are appreciative that the golf outing received such a strong response.
"The huge outpouring of golfers is a testament to Kevin, who will always hold a place in the hearts of all who knew him," they said. "The Kennelly Family is humbled and grateful for the support. We look forward to next year's events in support of this great cause."
