State Rep. Kelly Burke and 19th Ward Ald. Matt O’Shea will co-sponsor a free, three-part “Tech Smart Seniors” series at Mercy Circle, 3659 W. 99th St., on Wednesdays, Nov. 6, 13 and 20, at 10 a.m.

“Tech Smart Seniors,” led by Claire DiCola, will help seniors tap into the power of their smartphones and tablets.

“We encourage all participants to bring their own devices so we can help them apply what we review to their own smartphones and tablets,” said DiCola. “Our goal is to provide helpful, hands-on information.”

During each one-hour class, DiCola will address specific topics.

On Nov. 6, DiCola will teach the basics of using a smartphone and tablet. Participants will learn standard applications including messages, emails, maps and cameras.

On Nov. 13, DiCola and a team from Facebook will demonstrate how to use devices to connect with friends and family.

Nov. 20 will have DiCola sharing tips about using applications including calendars, messenger and photo albums.

Burke and O’Shea recruited DiCola, whose company Amplify 7 helps businesses optimize their online profiles, because she excels in presenting how-to tips in ways that are easy to understand. DiCola earned a master’s in business administration in marketing with a concentration in social media from St. Xavier University.

“We are grateful to co-sponsor this series,” said Frances Lachowicz, executive director of Mercy Circle, “because we know first-hand how important it is for older adults to stay in touch and to access information using the devices most of them already have.”

Refreshments will be served. Complimentary valet parking will be available at Mercy Circle’s main entrance.
