Joanne McEldowney, of Beverly, received the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) Award of Merit at the 25th annual Employee Recognition Award ceremony held on Nov. 19.
The UIC Award of Merit recognizes academic professionals and civil-service employees who exhibit outstanding service, commitment and dedication to UIC.
McEldowney is a clinical nurse consultant II in the clinical practice and professional development office.
Robert Workman, of Mt. Greenwood, recently had his artwork accepted into the collection of the Musee d’Art Moderne, De La Ville De Paris, France. The artwork is an original painting of black light paint on black paper of the recent first photo of a black hole by NASA. The acquisition committee of the Musee d’Art will study Workman’s offering.
Joe Oswald, of Beverly, recently announced the release of his new book “Vocabulary for Champions.”
Recommended for readers sixth-grade through adulthood, the book contains over 2,000 words, quizzes and word puzzles to help master important vocabulary.
Oswald has a master’s degree in history from De Paul University and a master’s degree in educational administration with endorsements in special education and English as a second language.
He has over 20 years of experience in teaching reading, writing and standardized test prep in the Chicago Public Schools.
Marie Kielty, an early-childhood consultant and Morgan Park resident, recently attended the annual conference of the National Association for the Education of Young Children in Nashville, Tenn.
Kielty is kindergarten-interest forum facilitator for the organization. She chaired a meeting of teachers, consultants and university faculty who shared information about issues related to kindergarten.
