An early-morning fire was reported on Aug. 13 at an office building at 9415 S. Western Ave., according to authorities.
The Chicago Police Department (CPD) Office of News Affairs said the fire was reported at about 6:35 a.m.
Chicago police and fire departments responded, and no one was in the building and no one was injured. The fire inspector ruled it as arson, police said.
Ben Lockwood, of Imperial Realty Company, said two employees entered the building, which is a multi-tenant office space, and saw signs of a blaze in the lobby.
“Somebody had set fake plants on fire,” he said.
It was fortunate they caught it so early, he said, but extensive damage occurred.
The front of the building was boarded up about five hours after the fire was reported.
