A man was found shot at a gas station in Blue Island and later succumbed to his injuries, according to the Blue Island Police Department.

Police said they responded on Tuesday, Jan. 21, at about 3:21 p.m., to the Shell gas station at 11901 S. Western Ave., which is on the Morgan Park/Blue Island border.

Matthew Jones, 27, of the 2300 block of West 119th Street in Blue Island, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he died of his injuries at 3:59 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Police said the shooting was an isolated incident.

The Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services Unit and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force are assisting with the investigation.
