Multiple thefts from vehicles were reported in Beverly, Morgan Park and Mt. Greenwood in January and early February, according to a community alert issued by the Chicago Police Department.
Police said unknown offenders have been walking through the communities during early-morning hours and pulling on car door handles. When locating an unlocked vehicle, they steal items inside.
Thefts occurred from midnight to 6 a.m.
Crimes were reported on Jan. 7 on the 9100 block of South Bell Avenue; on Jan. 10 on the 3000 block of West 109th Street, the 3400 block of West 105th Street, the 10600 block of South Sacramento Avenue and the 11100 block of South Homewood Avenue; on Jan. 20 on the 9700 block of South Leavitt Street and 10100 block of South Hoyne Avenue; on Jan. 27 on the 10000 block of South Campbell Avenue; on Jan. 29 on the 10500 block of South Ridgeway Avenue; on Jan. 30 on the 2300 block of West 110th Street and 11100 block of South Homewood Avenue; on Feb. 1 on the 9400 block of South Oakley Avenue; and on Feb. 4 on the 9600 block of South Leavitt.
Police reminded residents to lock vehicles, keep items of value inside the vehicle hidden from outside view, and park only in secure areas.
