A Mt. Greenwood woman died after she was struck by a vehicle on her home block during the night of Sept. 6, according to authorities.
Mary Jo Tsokolas, 41, was struck on the 3300 block of West 114th Street at about 11:20 p.m., according to the Chicago Police Department (CPD) and Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Police said that according to the initial police report, the victim was struck by a Chevy Trailblazer traveling west when she apparently attempted to grab onto the car door. She was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition.
The driver, a 40-year-old man, remained at the scene, and no charges or citations were issued.
Tsokolas was pronounced dead at 4:31 a.m. on Sept. 7, the medical examiner’s office said; her death was ruled an accident.
The CPD Major Accident Investigation Unit responded, police said, and Area 2 detectives were investigating.
