It’s a Tuesday morning in late June at the Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center, and the center is in full swing.

There’s cake and coffee to celebrate a birthday in the senior lounge, kids practicing their flutter kick in the pool and teen volunteers from a mission group discussing plans for a community garden. Summer camp has just begun, and the center is bustling inside and out with 380 elementary school-age children eager to participate in a variety of recreational, arts and educational programs.
