The Concerts at the Castle series will continue with violinist Anne Harris on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 7 p.m., at the historic Givins Castle, 10244 S. Longwood Dr.
On Friday, Feb. 28, at the Castle, Morgan Park resident David Boyle and Beverly resident Madeline O’Malley will share personal stories in their storytelling series, “South Specific.”
Harris performs soul-stirring music while dancing and moving with shamanic otherworldliness. Her precision and fluidity offer a combination of grace and intensity.
Steeped in the blues and inspired by the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Otis Taylor and Anders Osborne, Harris will draw from her “Roots” album, exploring emotional landscapes forged in the Virginia hills, where her grandfather sharecropped, as well as Maxwell Street, the legendary Chicago marketplace where the blues flourished in the 1930s and ’40s.
Boyle is a longtime musician, stage performer and writer, and his show, “To Be Determined,” won the Audience Favorite Award at the 2017 Elgin Fringe Festival.
The organizers of Concerts at the Castle said Jamie O’Reilly’s performance that was originally slated for Feb. 1 is being rescheduled.
Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., with performances at 7 p.m. Wine, cheese and refreshments will be provided.
A $27.50 donation is suggested for the Harris performance, and a $20 donation is suggested for “South Specific.” Proceeds will go toward maintenance of the Givins Castle.
