The Evergreen Park Recreation Department Candlelight Theatre production of “Ordinary People” will open on Friday, Sept. 27, at 7:30 p.m., in the auditorium of the Evergreen Park Senior Center, 9547 S. Homan Ave.

It will continue on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 29, at 3 p.m. The play will then move to a second weekend with a performance on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 6, at 3 p.m.

“Ordinary People,” a novel by Judith Guest, became an Academy Award-winning film in 1980. Although written in the late 1970s, the play raises issues that are relevant today in this world of teen anxiety, peer pressure and social media.

The play will feature the talents of local actors/residents Kevin Denny, Suzanne Noonan, Tom Jakubczak, Gianna Pinotti, Brianna Mooney, Ella and Heather Altena, Chris Cavanaugh and Andrew Kenny.

Seating is provided at candlelit banquet tables, with some row seating as well. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and students, and they are first-come, first-served. Advance ticket purchases are recommended.
