Graveyard Blues Tour

The Friends of the Cal-Sag Trail will host a Graveyard Blues Tour on Saturday, Aug. 31, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Participants will discover the history of Chicago Electric Blues on the bicycle tour that celebrates legendary blues masters including Hound Dog Taylor, Magic Sam and Muddy Waters.

The tour will begin at Natural Law, 13404 S. Old Western Ave., in Blue Island, and continue to three historic cemeteries near the Cal-Sag Trail. Blues artist and historian Harmonica Neil will meet the tour graveside to share stories and music of the blues legends.

The tour costs $30.

The Center, 12700 Southwest Hwy., in Palos Park, will host Womantalk on Tuesday, Aug. 27, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

The nurturing and supportive discussion group will focus on the August readings in Sarah Ban Breathnach’s “Simple Abundance” book, or any other inspirational resources that ladies would like to bring to share.

The focus of the program is learning to live authentically, joyfully, simply, gracefully and gratefully.

Participants may bring a lunch for a potluck-style picnic after the program.

Beverly Branch Library

Preschool Story Time will be held Tuesdays, Sept. 3, 10, 17 and 24, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., at the Beverly Branch Library, 1962 W. 95th St.

The program includes stories, songs, active play and a simple take-home craft geared for ages 3 to 5; however, all ages are welcome.

Registration is not required for this program.

Golf Scramble

Enjoy the outdoors during Labor Day at the Oak Lawn Park District’s Stony Creek Golf Course, 5850 W. 103rd St.

The annual Labor Day Four-Person Scramble will be held on Monday, Sept. 2, with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. The fee is $45 per player and includes greens fee, cart fee, range balls, drink ticket, buffet style lunch and prizes.

Tudor Wives

Meet the six wives of King Henry VIII live and in person as portrayed by Martina Mathisen at Bethany Union Church, 1750 W. 103rd St., on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 12:30 p.m.

The fascinating women led equally fascinating lives—apart from the manner in which they ended. An educational entertainer, Mathisen artfully interweaves tales of power, personality, and politics with a rousing presentation that transports the audience back to Tudor-era England.

A salad and dessert luncheon will follow the program.
