Beverly Branch Library

Explore music with the Ostrega-Uhl Project as it presents “Mozart and Musicals” on Saturday, Jan. 11, from 3 to 4:30 p.m., at the Beverly branch library, 1962 W. 95th St.

The recital will include Mozart’s “Piano Quartet in G” as well as string quartet arrangements of his operas from the 18th century and string quartet arrangements of musicals from the 20th century including selections from “The Sound of Music,” “Phantom of the Opera” and “West Side Story.”

The performers will include Brian Osrega, violin; Stephen Uhl, piano; and guest artists Don Galat, violin; Emma Strohbusch, viola; and Brian Gaoma, cello.

Urbanologist Max Grinnell will present “Going Green in Chicago” on Monday, Jan. 13, from 6 to 7:15 p.m.

The presentation will look at how the public and private sectors continue to work toward a better future in Chicago, including discussions of community gardens, green roots, public-transportation improvements and other programs.

This program is a part of the 2019-2020 One Book, One Chicago season, exploring the theme Season for Change through the book “The Sixth Extinction,” by Elizabeth Kolbert.

Oak Lawn Park District

Stay away from the winter blues by participating in the Winter Luau at the Oak Lawn Park District Ice Arena, 9320 S. Kenton Ave., on Sunday, Jan. 19, from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Enjoy a fun afternoon of skating, raffles and music provided by a DJ.

Admission is $7 and $4 for skate rental.

Join the Oak Lawn Park District and the Oak Lawn Public Library at Lake Shore Park, 9610 E. Shore Dr., for a Winter Story Walk on Monday, Jan. 20, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Story Walk transforms the pages of a children’s storybook into signs placed sequentially along the walking trail. This season’s featured book is “Winter is Here,” by Kevin Henkes.

Participants will also enjoy crafts and refreshments.

The Titanic

Historian Jessica McCann will present a multimedia presentation about the RMS Titanic and the experience of the Irish people aboard the ship at Chicago Gaelic Park, 6119 W. 147th St., in Oak Forest, on Sunday, Jan. 19, at 2 p.m.
