The Log Cabin Center for the Arts, 12700 Southwest Hwy., in Palos Park, will host a fabric art workshop on Wednesday, Aug. 14, from 1 to 3 p.m.
Instructor Denise Dulzo will help attendees be creative using permanent markers and alcohol, making interesting fabric art that can be used in future art projects.
Participants must bring their own fabric. Plain colors will work best. Workshop fee is $20.

Children’s Yoga, for grades one to six, will be held on Friday, Aug. 9, from 9 to 10:15 a.m., at Lake Katherine Nature Center and Botanic Gardens, 7402 W. Lake Katherine Dr., in Palos Heights.
This class will teach poses and postures to help children feel strong and calm.
As part of the center’s Kindness Karma Project, a collection of supplies for students in low-income areas will be conducted through Operation Backpack.

Family Stargazing will be held on Saturday, Aug. 10, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. This free event will feature guest astronomer Joseph Mayer, of the Chicago Astronomical Society.
Outdoor viewing with telescopes will take place in the Anniversary Garden area. Attendees will view the various planets and first phase of the moon.

The Rangers 3: Five-Day Summer Camp will begin on Monday, Aug. 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Through hands-on activities, nature games, crafts, fishing and walking in the waterfall, kids 7 to 9 years old will explore the Lake Katherine wilds to discover mud, bugs, reptiles, amphibians and plants.
The cost is $95. Registration is needed by Thursday, Aug. 8.

Wetland Wonders for children will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 14, from 1 to 2 p.m., for kindergarten to second-grade students, and from 3 to 4 p.m. for third- to fifth-grade students.
Participants will hike on the shores of Lake Katherine and use water nets to collect specimens to be examined using magnifying glasses and a dissecting scope.

All Things Folk will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 14, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., with folk music from local artist John Devens, plus short readings of nature-based folklore.
Tickets are $40 and include two complimentary cocktails garnished with herbs from the center’s garden.

Children ages 3 to 6 and their favorite adult can experiment, have fun and get their hands dirty making mud pies and mud cakes during “Mud Glorious Mud,” on Thursday and Friday, Aug. 15 and 16, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., and Saturday, Aug. 17, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
