Explorers at Play
The Walker branch library, 11071 S. Hoyne Ave., continues the Explorers at Play program with the following programs for July.
Registration is recommended for all programs.
On Tuesdays, July 23 and 30, from 2 to 3 p.m., the Explorers at Play “Make & Take,” for kids ages 6 to 13, will create something fun for participants to take home.
On Wednesday, July 24, from 11 a.m. to noon, Zach Letner will present Drawing a Story for ages 7 and up. Letner will teach participants how to use visuals to tell funny stories.
On Wednesdays, July 24 and 31, from 2 to 3 p.m., Explorers Storytime, for ages 2 to 6, will present an hour of read-aloud stories and other activities. Children must be accompanied by a parent.
On Thursdays, July 25 and Aug. 1, from 2 to 3 p.m., Steam Along at the STEM Lab, for kids ages 5 to 13, will present a fun science-related activity.
On Saturday, July 27, from 10:30 a.m. to noon, Family Activity Day will welcome all ages for a variety of activities for the whole family.
Also on Saturdays, July 27 and Aug. 3, at 1 p.m., a family-friendly feature film will be screened. Popcorn will be served.
Evergreen Park Library
Using the library’s butterfly garden, Ruth Hoskins, an Evergreen Park resident and professional photographer, will show participants how to take beautiful garden photos on Thursday, July 25, at 6:30 p.m., at the library, 9400 S. Troy Ave.
Registration is requested, and participants should bring a camera or cell phone.

Patrons ages 10 and older are invited to celebrate “Caturday” on Saturday, July 20, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Participants will make a kitty sachet or dog pull toy for animals currently being sheltered at the Anti-Cruelty Society in Chicago.
Participants should bring an old T-shirt, button-down shirt, sheet or pillowcase to use in making a cat or dog toy. Students can earn up to two service hours at the event.

Children ages 15 and under are invited to participate in a spelling bee that features words exclusively from the wizarding world of Harry Potter on Monday, July 22, at 6 p.m.
Costumes are encouraged. Registration is requested.

Get ready to take a trip into a world of pure imagination. Sing along with the Oompa Loompas and cheer Charlie on his way through Willy Wonka’s amazing, fabulous, stupendous chocolate factory in the original 1971 version of “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” on Thursday, July 25, at 2 p.m.
Registration is requested, and each child will receive a free perform-along fun pack.

“Uniquely Me: a Children’s Musical” will be presented on Friday, July 26, at 1 p.m., for kids in grades pre-kindergarten to second.
Confident Christine will share an original story and songs about how people are different but special in their own way.
