The Chicago Park District invites active seniors to participate in Senior Games 2019, Aug. 26 to Sept. 27, at various city parks.
Festivities will kick off Monday, Aug. 26, at 10 a.m., with opening ceremonies at Maggie Daley Park, 337 E. Randolph St. Athletes will partake in the ceremonial lighting of the cauldron, yoga and a fun walk.
The sporting competitions and leisure activities take place at various Chicago Park District sites and include track and field, horseshoes, shuffleboard, lawn bowling, basketball, bowling, swimming, line dancing, golf and more.
The games will close on Friday, Sept. 27, with an awards ceremony at South Shore Cultural Center, 7059 S. South Shore Dr.
An outing to Guaranteed Rate Field for a Chicago White Sox game will take place on Sunday, Sept. 8, at 1:10 p.m.
Seniors who are residents of Chicago, more than 50 years old and are in good physical health are encouraged to register.
The $25 registration fee includes opening and closing ceremonies with a participant meal; opportunity to participate in all the events; White Sox game ticket; Senior Games outing; Senior Games T-shirt; Senior Games participation ribbon; and a surprise if packets are picked up at opening ceremonies.
