Turpin Cares, a philanthropic non-profit organization in Beverly, is helping those in need with a two-part fundraiser this summer called “Christmas in July.”
On Friday, July 26, Turpin Cares will host Muffy Fishbasket and her Christmas cabaret for an evening of fundraising hilarity and drag queen magic, from 7 to 10 p.m., at Barraco’s Banquet Hall, 3124 W. 111th St.
Leading up to the non-traditional event, the group is also collecting pantry and hygiene items in partnership with Starbucks, 1933 W. 103rd St., in Beverly.
All proceeds from the fundraiser will go to purchase food, comfort items and hygiene products for those in need.
The night will include an all-you-can-eat pizza buffet with open bar; drag queen cabaret; candy cane raffle where everyone’s a winner; several Christmas-related raffles; a $200 door prize with entry being a donation of non-perishables and hygiene items; a silent auction; and more.
“People might wonder what we’re up to by hosting a Christmas-themed drag queen cabaret on Chicago’s south side,” said Greg Owen-Boger, executive director. “The answer is simple; the organization originated on holiday food drives, and we needed something to set us apart. One of our board members knows Muffy, so everything just fell into place. And besides, why not?”
