Robert D. Watkins Sr., 96, formerly of Beverly, died May 17.
Funeral services were held May 24 at Christ Church in Moline, Ill. Interment followed at the National Cemetery at the Rock Island Arsenal in Moline.
Watkins is survived by his children, Suzanne (Gunter) Klein, Thomas (Nancy) Watkins and R. David (Lale) Watkins; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Watkins was born in Chicago on Aug. 5, 1922. He graduated from Calumet High School and attended Grinnell College. He married Eudora L. Carr March on March 27, 1943, in St. Louis. She died in August 2014.
He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Coast Guard Merchant Marines.
Bob and Eudora owned and operated Watkins Flowers Inc. in Chicago and Evergreen Park, retiring in 1990.
He was a member of Christ Church in Moline, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Aledo Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the Kaaba Shrinters Legion of Honor and a former member and worshipful master of the Mizpah Lodge 768.
Watkins enjoyed dancing, world traveling and being with his family.
