The Ridge Historical Society (RHS), 10621 S. Seeley Ave., will host a Flag Day celebration to remember the late Carl Spencer on Friday, June 14, at 7 p.m.

The hostess will be Elaine Spencer, Carl’s widow and the current president of RHS.

Carl Spencer was born on Flag Day 100 years ago. He was well known in the community for his positive outlook and great stories.

Spencer was the owner of the American Perforator Co. and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a strong supporter of RHS, serving on the board for many years. Spencer, who died in 2010, was also a member of the Kiwanis Club and the American Legion.

He was probably best known for being an avid bicycle rider and racer. On permanent display at RHS are one of Spencer’s racing bikes and other memorabilia.

Videos and pictures of Spencer will be on display, and guests are invited to share their memories about him.

Hors d’oeuvres and wine and beer and non-alcoholic beverages will be served. A donation of $25 is suggested to benefit RHS. Reservations are required.
