De La Salle

De La Salle Institute will host its 13th annual Great Futures Gala on Friday, April 24, at 6 p.m., at the Ritz-Carlton Chicago, 160 E. Pearson St.

The honorees include Michael Wagner, Class of 1967, and De La Salle Principal Dr. Diane Brown.

The emcee for the evening will be ABC 7 Chicago’s Stacey Baca.

The gala benefits the financial aid program for the young women and men attending De La Salle Institute.

Tickets are $300.

St. Rita

St. Rita High School, 7740 S. Western Ave., will host its 84th annual alumni banquet on Friday, April 17, from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. The class of 1970 invites classmates to celebrate their 50th reunion on that evening.

Morgan Park Academy seventh-grader Najja King has been chosen for recognition in an international essay contest about peace and humanity.

Sponsored annually by the Goi Peace Foundation, a Tokyo-based non-governmental organization partnered with UNESCO, the essay contest focused this year on the theme of “Creating a Society Full of Kindness.”

More than 7,000 students from all over the world submitted essays in the 7- to 14-year-old age group.

King was one of only 33 students chosen for prizes or honorable-mention recognition.
