A local man was charged with sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl at the Walker Branch of the Chicago Library System in Morgan Park, according to the Chicago Police Department Office of News Affairs.
Damond Hampton, 25, of the 10700 block of South Hale Avenue, is charged with three felony counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a victim less than 13 years old.
Police said the incident was reported at the library, on the 11000 block of South Hoyne Avenue., at about 4 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 16.
Police said Hampton was sitting next to the victim near a desk in a corner room of the library and had entered the room after the victim's mother left the room.
He fled on foot after the assault, police said, and was taken into custody about an hour later.
Hampton had been banned from the library before for inappropriate behavior with female patrons.
The victim was taken to the Little Company of Mary Hospital in good condition.
Hampton was set to appear in court on Wednesday, Dec. 18.
