Donald J. Tesmond, 91, of Beverly, died Oct. 9.
Funeral services were held Oct. 15 from Curley Funeral Home to St. Barnabas Roman Catholic Church. Interment followed at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ruth; his children, JoAnne, Dale (Fran), Karen (Jack) Gavin, Don (Beth), Barb (John) Trunk, Joe (Traci) and Lisa; his grandchildren, Dave (Kate), Julie (P.J.) McGrath, Lauren (Dan) Lonergan, Sara, Jonathan (Libby) Trunk, Dan (Gretchen) Trunk, Drew (Taylor) Trunk, Molly (Scott) Loy, Kara Gavin, Jack (Liz) Gavin, Matt (Kate), Rick, Tyler, Trevor and Tara; and his great-grandchildren, Jack, Will, Ben, Liam, Grace, Patrick, Moira, John, Charlie, Henry, Clare, Blair, Annabelle, Lilah, Graham, Rosie and Elle.
Tesmond was a graduate of Leo High School (1946) and St. Joseph’s College (1950) and completed post-grad work from the University of Chicago Teaching College (1962). He served as superintendent of Matteson and Richton Elementary School District 159 for 27 years. Prior to that, he was principal of Atwood Heights and Meadow Lane schools.
He was an avid tennis player and golfer. In 1992, Don and Ruth Tesmond retired to the Deep Canyon Tennis Club in California.
