James K. Heffernan, 66, of Morgan Park, died Dec. 22.
Funeral services were held Dec. 28 from Curley Funeral Home to St. Cajetan Roman Catholic Church. Interment followed at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Kathleen; his children, Patrick (Meghan) and Daniel Heffernan; his grandson, Robert; his siblings, Kathleen Lennon, Eileen Heffernan and Maureen Heffernan; his mother-in-law, Shirley; his in-laws, Colleen (John Moore) McSweeney, Robert (Brid), Maureen Escherich, Timothy (Julia) McSweeney, Mary (Nicholas) Stiglich and Julie (Rob) Rush; and many nieces and nephews.
Heffernan was a proud alumnus of Mt. Carmel High School (1971) and St. Xavier University (1982). He was a past president of the Mt. Carmel Alumni Association and a former Mt. Carmel Man of the Year. He was a member of IBEW Local 9, former deputy commissioner of the Bureau of Electricity for the city of Chicago, deputy director of OEMC, 19th Ward precinct captain and a founding member of the South Side Irish Parade Committee.
