Pastor Wayne Bruce Dahl, 85, of Palos Hills and formerly of Oak Lawn, died recently.

A celebration of life will be held June 15 at 10 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. Inurnment will be held privately at Fairmount Willow Hills Memorial Park.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Myrwang); his children, David (Diane), Gary (Tineke) and Karen (Brian) Smith; his grandchildren, Oliver, Benjamin, Solveig, Melanie, Melissa and Chloe.

Pastor Dahl served congregations for over 40 years in Montana and Illinois. He served at Froid-Homestead Parish, American Lutheran Church and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Montana and Trinity Lutheran Church in Oak Lawn where he retired in 2000.

Dahl met Pope Pius XII in 1951 in Italy. In 1984, Good Shepherd Church surprised him with a 2-week trip to Israel. The sights and experiences of the Holy Land enriched his ministry. He had the honor of baptizing all his grandchildren and officiating each of his children’s weddings.

He was an avid skier, runner, hiker and loved to ride his motorcycle. He loved fishing in Montana. He also loved attending Cubs, Bulls and White Sox games. He was an accomplished musician who loved singing, playing guitar and the banjo.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Trinity Lutheran Church Dream Fund.
