Eileen G. Hansen (nee Smyth), 88, of Beverly, died Aug. 28.
Funeral services were held Sept. 7 from Donnellan Funeral Home to St. Barnabas Roman Catholic Church. Interment followed at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
She is survived by her children, Brian, Jeff (Joy) and Susan Hansen, Mary (Bill) Metzler and Beth (Steve) Rockey; her grandchildren, Nicole, Michelle and Ashley Hansen, Charlie, Jack, Danny, Katie, Bill and Elizabeth Metzler, and Kara, Matt and Emily Rockey; her sisters, Kay Dodd, Elaine Barry and Patricia (Ed) Harmening; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Hansen was a graduate of Mundelein College. She started out as a Chicago Public Schools teacher and later earned her master’s degree in psychology/counseling and went on to build a second career as a marriage and family counselor at Little Company of Mary Hospital, where she co-founded the bereavement support program, and later in private practice.
She was a kind, fun, sensitive, spiritual person with a strong social conscience who did her best to make her community and the world more peaceful and just. She never gave up.
