James D. Patton, 94, of Tinley Park, died Jan. 28.
Funeral services were held Feb. 4 from Maher Funeral Home to St. Julie Billiart Roman Catholic Church with private interment on Feb. 5 at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
Patton is survived by his wife of 71 years, Eileen; his children, Kathleen Gora, Eileen (Michael) Havey, Madonna Halicki, Maureen Lash, James (Cookie), Pat (Colleen) and John (Candy) Patton and Amy (Greg) Preves; 22 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was a longtime employee of Patton Motor Service in Beverly and worked with his son, Pat, the owner and longtime Beverly resident, and grandsons John and Brian.
A U.S. Army and World War II veteran, Patton enlisted in 1943. He was deployed with the 94th Infantry Division. He retired as a colonel. Sworn in as a Chicago Police Department officer in May 1956, Patton, a North Side native, retired in 1984 as a lieutenant.
