Chris Dimas, 87, of Beverly, died Feb. 6.

Funeral services were held Feb. 8 at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. Private burial was held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Colonial Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Helen; his son, Andreas (Kristen) Dimas; his grandchildren, Nickolas, Sophia, Alexandra and Christos; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Dimas was a graduate of Harper High School and Murray State University. He met his wife at Murray State. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in the last week of his life.

He served in the U.S. Army. After his military service, he earned a master’s degree in music from Vandercook College of Music and a Ph.D. from Syracuse University.

Dimas had many teaching jobs, including in Crossville, Ind., Athens, Greece, and Pasadena, Calif., before finally settling in Chicago with the City Colleges of Chicago.

His hobbies included traveling with his wife and being involved in community theater, including as a 25-year member of the Beverly Hills University Club.

Dimas was most proud of his family.
