What a treat to read Carol Flynn’s feature (July 24) on U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice John Paul Stevens.

If there were any doubt Stevens was an independent thinker, it was in the nugget Flynn unveiled: Stevens was “an avid Cubs fan” living in Beverly.

Weaving in former Chicago Tribune editor Bill Barnhart and Beverly’s original power couple—John Coffey III and gardener extraordinaire Pat—made for a delightful and ultra-regional read.
