In regard to Scott Reeder’s column (Feb. 5) about Kobe Bryant, I would like to clarify my comments because they failed to convey accurately my thoughts about his death.

I empathize with the unimaginable suffering of Vanessa Bryant and her daughters. As a black woman in leadership, I recognize the pervasive misrepresentation of black fathers in pop culture, particularly in sports.

The way in which Kobe Bryant and others have embraced fatherhood as a part of their public persona has had a significant impact on morale and self-image as demonstrated by the viral hashtag #girldad.

That is a legacy worth celebrating.
