I take exception to the largely false and unsubstantiated claims made in a recent letter (Letters to the Editor, Dec. 11) about the Heartland Alliance Detention Center.

Judging from this rant, the authors hate the U.S government, hate President Donald Trump, hate the fact that real efforts are being made to stop illegal immigration and falsely claim concentration-camp conditions in detention facilities—what nonsense.

They should know what a real concentration camp is. Just ask any of our Jewish neighbors.

Regardless, these authors are our neighbors and are entitled to their opinions but not their own facts. This is a great country. We have been and continue to be more than generous to the poor of the world. We are at a point economically and socially where we must protect our borders and take care of our own citizens.

My sense is that most people in Beverly would agree.
