The past 26 years have been rewarding for Dr. Kathleen Daly as she serves Mt. Greenwood as a trusted podiatrist, but the first five months of 2020 were certainly the most challenging.
Like all medical professionals during the COVID-19 crisis, Dr. Daly has implemented new protocols at her podiatry office, 10431 S. Kedzie Ave., to keep her patients and staff safe.
To provide the highest level of safety, Dr. Daly’s office has decreased the number of chairs in the waiting room, and asks patients not to bring any additional family members with them than is necessary.
Dr. Daly and her staff are wearing facemasks, and they provide hand sanitizer in the office. They also require patients to wear facemasks.
Such protocols are important to Dr. Daly, and her dedication to her patients is why thousands of local residents have received professional treatment at her office.
Dr. Daly offers a full range of podiatric care, including ingrown toenails, plantar warts, corns and calluses caused from hammer toes, heel spurs and pain caused from bunions. Dr. Daly provides expert evaluation and treatment of all foot problems. On-site X-ray is available.
Dr. Daly is a dedicated runner who has completed nine marathons, and she is knowledgeable about running problems.
Caring for diabetic patients is also an important part of her practice. According to Dr. Daly, diabetes patients require proper footwear. Diabetic footwear can help prevent serious foot complications, and Dr. Daly offers a line of shoes for diabetics that are covered by Medicare if they meet criteria.
If you are a diabetic on Medicare (Part B), you may be eligible to receive these shoes at little or no cost. Dr. Daly’s office has a full line of footwear that looks just like standard shoes but with many protective benefits.
Heel pain treatments can consist of cortisone injections, anti-inflammatories, night splints and stretching exercises.
Dr. Daly also makes custom orthotics, which can help heel pain, neuromas and discomfort from fallen arches.
Nail fungus is a problem common to many. Dr. Daly carries Formula 3 topical nail solution. Doctors have found that, with daily use of this solution and periodic debridement of the nail, there has been an improvement in appearance of the nails. It is also backed by a patient direct, money back guarantee. The bottle sells for $35.
Dr. Daly is a 1990 graduate of the Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine and graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1985. She has been in private practice since 1992.
Dr. Daly is certified by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine and is a fellow of the American Professional Wound Care Association. She is a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association and Illinois Podiatric Medical Association. Dr. Daly was previously a director-at-large for the Illinois Podiatric Medical Association. She is also the podiatrist for Smith Village and Mercy Circle retirement homes.
She has also been active in supporting worthwhile charitable efforts.
For six years, Dr. Daly served as the podiatry coordinator for the Chicago portion of the Avon 2 Day Breast Cancer Walk. Prior to being coordinator, she was a volunteer for the previous nine years. She and her volunteer podiatrists and podiatry students treated more than 300 walkers at the 40-mile, two-day trek that raised funds for the fight against breast cancer.
She is also one of the original walkers in the Beverly Breast Cancer Walk in 2000.
She has volunteered at the PADS shelter in Marquette Park, and along with St. John Fisher Church, ran a sock drive for the underprivileged at the shelter in the winter months.
Dr. Daly served on the BAPA Council of Delegates representing the West Beverly Civic Association and is a past president of that community group.
Dr. Daly takes pride in providing a welcoming, family atmosphere at her office, and her patients quickly become friends. The ever-changing chalkboard in the waiting room reflects that fact. It contains current thoughts, events and book recommendations because Dr. Daly and many of her patients love to read. It’s become like her own in-house book club.
Her office has garnered compliments from local residents over the years for the landscaping and well-kept lawn at her office, which is easy to find—just look for the cute neon-light feet in the front window.
The office accepts Medicare assignment and many commercial insurance plans. Jane Downey is the office manager, and she gladly helps patients with insurance claims and scheduling appointments. The office uses GIS billing, a service that provides punctual billing and improved efficiency.
Dr. Daly provides office information and a downloadable information form that patients can bring with them on their first visit on her website at kathleendalydpm.com.
