Summary: Joliet Catholic (0-0) at St. Rita (0-0), Aug. 30, 7:30 p.m.
The gauntlet begins for the St. Rita Mustangs with one of the toughest schedules in the state.
In the first four weeks of the season, Coach Todd Kuska’s team will square off with two defending state champs, a state runner-up and a state semifinalist. First up is the defending Class 5A state champions, the Hilltoppers of Joliet Catholic (JCA). Senior running back Kenyetta Williams missed much of the 2018 season and leads the ground-pounding JCA attack. St. Rita senior linemen Michael Milton and Justin Darwin will look to slow down the Hilltoppers run game. JCA averaged 361 rushing yards a game last year.
After a down 2018 campaign, St. Rita looks to get the 2019 season off on the right note. The Mustangs feature a ton of skill players on offense, especially sophomore Kaleb Brown. A late season call-up as a freshman, Brown and senior Tahrhon Haynes anchor the backfield.
Kyle James, Henry Wilson and Nick Adent are all weapons for quarterbacks Brian Johnson and Justin Valdez. Senior Trevor Tovey returns from an injury-plagued junior year to lead the offensive line.
