In celebration of National Recovery Month, the Governors State University (GSU) Addictions Studies Alumni Club will sponsor its sixth annual Walk for Recovery on Saturday, Sept. 16, at Governors State University.

The Walk for Recovery is designed to honor individuals in recovery or who are seeking recovery. The event also celebrates the treatment and support service providers who are committed to helping them, and to increasing awareness surrounding addiction issues.

The 9 a.m. program will feature speakers including Peter Palanca, GSU professor and immediate past executive vice president and COO of Treatment Alternatives for Safe Communities (TASC, Inc.), who will serve as master of ceremonies; and Congressman Danny K. Davis, who, in addition to his public service, has had productive careers as an educator, community organizer, health planner/administrator, and civil rights advocate.

The event also features door prizes, refreshments, music and entertainment. Sponsors for the event include TASC, Inc.; the South Suburban Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse, the Illinois Certification Board; Stepping Stones; Elite Treatment Center; Walt’s Finer Foods; Chicago Dough Richton Park; Aurelio’s Crete, and Sunrise Greenhouses, among others.
