Holy Nativity new mass

Episcopal Church of the Holy Nativity Deacon Daryce Hoff Nolan (left), her dog, Peter Tchaikovsky Puggles, and the Rev. Gina Volpe take part in a recent service at the church, which will add a Mass on Saturdays at 3:45 p.m., beginning Aug. 7.

The Episcopal Church of the Holy Nativity, 9300 S. Pleasant Ave., will add a Saturday evening Mass at 3:45 p.m., beginning Aug. 7.

Holy Nativity has added three additional services to its Sunday 9 a.m. Mass since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The church first added an online Wednesday morning healing prayer service at 11 a.m. Then in spring, Holy Nativity added Compline Unplugged on Tuesday nights at 7 p.m., which is both online, and in person and is prayed in the parish house.

Unplugged refers to the fact that the Rev. Gina Volpe and Deacon Daryce Hoff Nolan are not in vestments or clerics. They are dressed in clothes ready to end their day, as Compline is the last of the daily prayers of the day.

The Saturday evening 3:45 p.m. Mass is the third addition to the schedule.

That Mass will be a combination of the Sunday Mass as it is in anticipation for Sunday (and counts for Sunday) as well as the more informal conversational preaching that happens at the church’s Wednesday healing prayers: seated and chatting between the clergy and the congregation.

The service, like all the services since August 2016, will be both in person and live on Facebook.

All are welcomed to attend both in person and online.
