Kathleen Alaimo, Ph.D.

Kathleen Alaimo, Ph.D., a 26-year Beverly resident, recently received the 2021 St. Xavier University Faculty Service and Mission Award.

The award is given annually to a faculty member who, through teaching, scholarship and service, has furthered the mission of the university and who has consistently embodied the university’s Catholic and Mercy identity by “serving wisely and compassionately in support of human dignity and the common good.”

Alaimo is currently professor of history and coordinator of senior research projects in the honors program, and she previously served as chair of the department of history and political science (1993-1999), director of the women and gender studies program (2002-2004), dean of the college of arts and sciences (2004-2015) and provost of the university (2015-2017).

Alaimo teaches world and European history, and she is the co-editor of the book “Children as Equals: Exploring the Rights of the Child.”
