Local crime report

Two men, according to the Oak Lawn Police Department, were arrested after leading police on a chase from Gary, Ind., to Oak Lawn in a vehicle that had been hijacked in Chicago a day earlier.

Police said the chase occurred on Nov. 8, a day after a Chevrolet Equinox was stolen during an aggravated carjacking.

Gary Police Department officers located the vehicle after information from a license-plate reader indicated the vehicle had been stolen.

The vehicle fled from police, who pursued it on Interstate 80/94 West to I-294 South.

The vehicle exited at 95th Street and fled east until crashing into a traffic light at 95th Street and Oak Park Avenue, which is just west of Chicago Ridge Mall.

Both offenders fled on foot, police said, and the passenger, Jalen Roberts, 20, of Gary, was taken into custody on the west side of a car dealership on the 6700 block of West 95th Street.

The driver, Damarco Morrison, 19, of the 11500 block of South State Street, was arrested after an extensive search, police said.

With the help of the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Canine Unit, he was discovered hiding under a vehicle in a parking lot just east of the car dealership.

He was in possession of the key of the stolen vehicle, police said.

Roberts was charged with one count of criminal trespass to a motor vehicle and possession of a controlled substance; he was also wanted on two warrants in Illinois and Indiana.

Morrison was charged with one felony count of possession of a stolen motor vehicle, as well as traffic-related offenses.

Additional charges may also be brought against both men in Indiana.

Both appeared in 5th Municipal District court in Bridgeview on Nov. 10.

According to media reports, Roberts was issued a bond of $75,000 and is on electronic monitoring. Morrison received a bond of $100,000 and electronic monitoring.
