A GoFundMe account has been established online in honor of Mary Jo Tsokolas, a Mt. Greenwood resident who was struck and killed by a car last year.
Family and friends are raising funds in support of A Silver Lining Foundation, which provides cost-free breast health testing for those who are uninsured, underinsured or ineligible for other breast-health testing programs.
Tsokolas was the chief administration officer at River Forest Breast Care Center and worked with the foundation.
According to the Chicago Police Department (CPD) and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, Tsokolas, 41, was struck by a Chevy Trailblazer on the 3300 block of West 114th Street, her home block, at about 11:20 p.m. on Sept. 6.
Police said she had attempted to grab onto the car door. She was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center and died at about 4:30 a.m. on Sept. 7.
The medical examiner ruled her death an accident.
