Students create bracelets to fund donation for A New Direction

Sutherland Elementary School eighth-graders Maeve Briody (from left), Peyton Bartels, Emily Swenson-Reynolds and Micaela Borjas recently presented a check for $485 to A New Beverly Morgan Park Direction (AND) Executive Director Jessica McCarihan, with the donation coming from handmade friendship bracelets the students sold for $3 each. The students called their fundraiser “Brace Against Violence.” AND provides services that include domestic violence education, crisis intervention, safety planning, counseling, education and support. It also provides advocacy to help clients navigate Illinois’ legal system for orders of protection, child custody, child support and divorce. AND provides consistent support, as well as resource referrals, when necessary, long-term mentoring, and assistance with victim safety planning. AND will host its inaugural golf outing on June 21 at Ridge Country Club. The cost is $225 per golfer. For more information, visit anewdirectionbmp.org.
