Dave and Gail Lauryn

Dave and Gail Lauryn rehearse for “Chapatti.” Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit four local theater groups including the Beverly Theatre Guild, Stray Dog Theatre, the Gaelic Park Players and Curtain Call Theatre.

The pandemic has forced live theater venues to go dark for a year now, and the resulting loss of revenue has put these enterprises in a serious cash bind.

To help address this threat to the health of the local arts scene, the Lauryn Family, of Morgan Park, is producing an online streaming performance as a benefit project for four local community theatre groups: the Beverly Theatre Guild, Stray Dog Theatre, the Gaelic Park Players and Curtain Call Theatre.

They have chosen the show “Chapatti,” a two-person play by the contemporary Irish playwright Christian O’Reilly. They are presenting the play by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc.

Gail and Dave Lauryn are performing the two roles; Ariel Lauryn is directing, and Eric Lauryn is assisting. Gail and Dave have many years of acting, directing and other theater experience, and Ariel has professional credits in the same areas.

The Lauryns will record the show and make it available for viewing on Friday, April 9, and Saturday, April 17, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, April 18, at 3 p.m., at Showtix4u, an internet streaming platform.

The Beverly Theatre Guild is acting as their non-profit sponsor.

Tickets are $10, and the Lauryns will donate $7.20 of each ticket price to the theater group selected by the patron.
