State Rep. Kelly Burke (D-36th), newly sworn in as mayor of Evergreen Park, recently visited the Oak Lawn campus of Southwest Chicago Christian School.
School administrators and Board President Virginia Foster gave Burke a tour of the recently renovated campus and discussed how the Illinois Invest in Kids Act has impacted the school community.
For the 2020-21 school year, Southwest Chicago Christian has 18 students from 12 families that benefit from these scholarships. Across the school’s three campuses in Oak Lawn, Tinley Park and Palos Heights, Southwest Chicago Christian Schools has raised $2.3 million for scholarships for families with financial need.
“These scholarships remove an economic barrier so that families can choose the school that best meets their children’s needs. We are focused on investing in students and meeting their individual needs. The scholarships help us invest in children from a variety of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds,” said Principal Nate Pettinga.
The Oak Lawn campus of Southwest Chicago Christian Schools serves over 25 surrounding areas including Evergreen Park, Alsip, Beverly, Mt. Greenwood, Pullman, Englewood, Auburn Gresham, Oak Forest, Blue Island and others.
