Chicago Police Department (CPD) officers continue their search for five suspects who they alleged opened fire in an outdoor dining area at a restaurant in Morgan Park, killing one man and wounding four other victims.

Area 2 detectives released photos and video of the suspects on Sept. 2, three days after the shooting on Aug. 30.

Police said each suspect is a black male: one was wearing a teal hoodie with light-colored jeans and multi-colored gym shoes; one was wearing a black hoodie with blue jeans and black shoes; one was wearing a yellow hoodie and a black baseball cap; one was wearing a white sleeveless T-shirt with dark pants; and the last suspect was wearing a black T-shirt with light-colored jeans and dark gym shoes.

The suspects were wearing face coverings, police said, and used handguns in the shooting.

Video released by police shows the suspects’ movements, as well as what appears to be a dark-colored mid-sized SUV; police did not provide a description of the vehicle.

Police said the shooting occurred at 1:36 p.m. on Aug. 30.

Devon Welsh, 31, of the Back of the Yards neighborhood, was killed as he dined in an outdoor tent, police said. The four other victims were taken to area hospitals and were in stable or good condition.

Police said Welsh was targeted.

According to multiple sources, including the CPD, Welsh and the shooters were “fighting over the dividing up of looted merchandise.”

The restaurant, Lumes, 11601 S. Western Ave., re-opened on Sept. 2. Outdoor dining is available, along with indoor dining at 25-percent capacity, in accordance with COVID-19 guidelines.

A manager at the restaurant, who only provided a reporter with her first name, expressed condolences to the victims.

“Our hearts go out to all the families who got hurt. It’s a tragedy. We can’t believe this happened,” Beverly said. “We’ve been here a long time—since 1995—and nothing like this has ever happened.”
