John Timothy Naylor, 70, of Beverly, died Oct. 18.
His final resting place will be next to his brother, mother and father, stepmother and paternal grandparents in Elmwood Cemetery in Morning Sun, Iowa. Smith Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Wendy; his daughter, Bethany; and his cousin, Edie (Ron) Fox.
Naylor was born in Auburn, Iowa. He graduated from Monmouth College and the University of Illinois with degrees in physics and engineering. In his long career, he worked on nuclear submarines and nuclear, gas and advanced solar power plants.
He married Wendy Fish in 1993. They welcomed their daughter into the family in 1995. In 2001, the Naylor Family moved from Hyde Park to the Beverly area.
Naylor was devoted to Christ and committed to a life of grateful obedience to God. He served as deacon in the Presbyterian Church for 18 years.
An avid skier, he traveled to slopes in more than 18 states and three Canadian provinces as a member of the Chicago Ski Club. In the past 10 years, he took up marksmanship and enjoyed traveling to Nevada for specialized training and practice.
A lifelong audiophile, Naylor loved classical music and was an accomplished trumpeter in a Chicago quintet.
