George Roger Hensley, 78, of Beverly, died Nov. 11.

A celebration of his life will be postponed until all of his loved ones can gather to honor his legacy.

He is survived by his children, Renea Garza, Rory Hensley, Rita McGlothlin, Reese Hensley and Daniel Lynch; his brother, Reid; his former wife, Eleanor Hensley-Roche; and his 47 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Hensley joined the Chicago Fire Department (CFD) in 1970. He spent most of his career at the former Engine Co. 61. He was a 49-year member of Firefighters Union Local 2 and a proud member of the Brotherhood of the Barrel.

For his distinguished service and acts of bravery, Hensley was the recipient of the Medal of Valor. He retired from the CFD in 2000 after 30 years of service.
