Robert “Bob” M. Olson, 74, of Alsip, died Feb. 19.
Visitation is scheduled for Feb. 23, from 4-8 p.m., at Curley Funeral Home. A funeral Mass is set for Feb. 24, at 10 a.m., at St. Terrence Roman Catholic Church. Private interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Kubina-Tybor Directors handled the arrangements.
He is survived by his niece and nephew, Julie (Patrick) Devaney and Michael (Jeannie); his special niece and nephew, Annie and Charlie Olson; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and neighbors.
Olson was a dedicated teacher in the Evergreen Park School District 124 for 35 years at various elementary schools and Central Middle School, teaching art, English, social studies and technology.
He was also the coach for the declamation team at Central Middle School. He made a difference in the lives of many students and made learning enjoyable with his wonderful sense of humor.
He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa International, an organization for educators. He was a trustee for Alsip-Merrionette Park Library Board since 2013.
Olson loved cars, trips to Las Vegas, gardening, fishing and spending time with his friends and neighbors. He had a kind heart, and he will be missed by all who knew him.
Memorial donations are appreciated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
