Nell E. Sutkus (nee Alksnis), 100, of Morgan Park, died May 9.

Funeral services were held May 14 from Donnellan Funeral Home to St. Cajetan Roman Catholic Church. Interment followed at St. Casimir Cemetery.

She is survived by her children, Patricia (Charles) Gestner, Ken (Karen) Sutkus, Kathy Schuster and Tom (Kris) Sutkus; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Sutkus was the last surviving relative of her generation and lived to be a century old while she retained the interest and energy of youth. She was a giving person and actively involved in the community for the majority of her life.

Sutkus volunteered at Little Company of Mary Hospital for 30 years until she was 97 years of age. She knew how to do small things with great love.

She was involved in senior citizen groups, where she found enjoyment in leading the group in singing. She lived through the Great Depression and World War II and subsequently knew how to save and to serve others. She spent the last many months reading love letters she received from her husband, Joseph, during WWII, and she would spontaneously sing hymns in Lithuanian right in the middle of the day.

Most important was her strong faith and her dedication to the Blessed Virgin. She spent recent days praying the rosary throughout the day as she had done throughout her life. Sutkus loved to sing, and she loved to dance. She has enjoyed being a mother to her four adult children, grandchildren and aunt to many nieces and nephews.
