Nick Markulin, 72, a longtime teacher and soccer coach at Br. Rice High School, died on Oct. 25.


Nick Markulin, 72, of Oak Lawn, died Oct. 25.

Visitation will be held Oct. 29 from 3-7 p.m. at Blake Lamb Funeral Home. The funeral home will adhere to the current gathering restrictions in the state of Illinois which allows 25 or fewer guests at a time at services.

Proper social distancing must be practiced and all guests will be required to wear facemasks at all times.

Private interment will follow. There will be a public memorial held in the spring at Br. Rice High School to honor and celebrate Nick’s life for former students, players and all associated with his hugely impactful life in both soccer and education.

Markulin was a proud alumni of Eastern Illinois University, winning a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) National Championship in soccer. He went on to coach many successful Br. Rice soccer teams, winning hundreds of games.

He was named to the Br. Rice, Chicago Catholic League and Illinois High School Soccer Hall of Fame. Markulin spent 42 years of his life educating our youth as both a teacher and coach at Br. Rice.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nick’s name to either the Eastern Illinois University soccer program or the Br. Rice High School soccer program.
