I rarely respond to articles, but your editorial (April 28) “Good to have Burke on the job,” I had to respond.
I have been a resident of Evergreen Park since 1984 and raised my family here.
I have been active in parish organizations at St. Bernadette Roman Catholic Church, and I am past president of the Loyola University Chicago School of Business Alumni Association.
As a resident, I believe we have had some excellent mayors. Evergreen Park Mayor Jim Sexton will be a hard act to follow, even for someone just running for mayor—but more so for someone holding two jobs.
I have voted for Kelly Burke in the past but do not agree with her decision on holding two positions.
I never thought the mayor of Evergreen Park was a part-time job. One job or both could suffer. If it were easy to hold two important jobs, more people would do it.
I hope Kelly Burke re-thinks her decision about holding two jobs. Decide on one or the other.
Can she provide the high-quality services of past mayors? Are we going to see that quality slip?
