Keith Pekau is one of the numerous GOP hopefuls running for Congress in the new Illinois Sixth District.
Pekau is best known as the mayor who wasted over $70,000 of taxpayers’ money on a vanity lawsuit that he filed because it gave him free publicity. But, in a crowded GOP field and with no real accomplishments to his name, Pekau needs the free publicity.
And, to demonstrate his contempt for the voters in his town, after wasting over $70,000 of taxpayers’ money, he withdrew the lawsuit and disclosed that fact in a closed session at a village board meeting to avoid being asked questions about his actions. It was pure political and personal cowardice.
He recently stated that “the left”, whatever he means by that, demonstrates disrespect for the police. The same Pekau, who genuflects to Donald Trump, is speaking about disrespect for the police.
I remind Keith that Trump was the person who incited seditionists to invade the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, in a bid to overturn the 2020 election. Those seditionists literally beat members of the Capitol police, and they used flagpoles with “blue lives matter” banners on them.
And, there is credible information to suggest that several GOP members of Congress may have given aid to the seditionists. The Party of Law and Order, as members love to style themselves, supported sedition and violence against the police that they claim to love.
How can we as voters engage with people who literally twist everything around to support their own political goals? The insurrection happened only 15 months ago, but since Jan. 7, 2021, the GOP has been doing everything that it can to rewrite history—and cancel history.
I thought the GOP was opposed to cancel culture, but as with most of what its members say, they generally exemplify what they claim to oppose.
