The Good News 2020

Charlie and Debbie Anderson always wanted to own a restaurant, and since opening Joseph’s Restaurant and Bar in January 2018, their dream has been a blessing for people who love delicious food and great service.

Since then, and even during the recent trying times, Joseph’s, 3123 W. 111th St., has garnered rave reviews as the Andersons, residents of Evergreen Park, continue to honor beloved family traditions of chef-inspired recipes and cooking that embody what homemade food is all about.

As a result of COVID-19, Joseph’s suffered like other restaurants in the state, but it endured—thanks to its many loyal customers, many of them first responders, as well as its wonderful staff that was so flexible in changing the way the restaurant could serve customers.

The Andersons are extremely grateful and said they never would have made it without them. Joseph’s humbly paid it forward by quietly supporting efforts to help the community.

The restaurant partnered with Dr. Thomas Moss DDS to print “Think Local” T-shirts from Marathon Sportswear as a way to support small businesses. Joseph’s was nominated by its customers through the promotion, and then Joseph’s ended up purchasing some of the shirts with its name and Dr. Moss’ name on the back to give to customers.

The owners also got involved early in the pandemic for Meal Train sign-ups for first responders at local hospitals.

Some customers provided funds for Joseph’s to feed first responders as a means of giving back to those heroes. Joseph’s also supported the efforts of 19th Ward Ald. Matt O’Shea to provide food for first responders and those on the front lines of the pandemic.

Also, to keep customers safe, the staff at Joseph’s is taking strict measures to provide a safe experience by following CDC guidelines so customers feel comfortable dining there and ordering takeout.

The times have been stressful, but one way for local residents to deal with that is to think about food—and then order from Joseph’s.

Always famous for its barbecue ribs, slow-roasted prime rib, fresh soups and salads, Joseph’s takes homemade goodness to the next level with the restaurant’s daily specials.

Joseph’s uses only the freshest ingredients available when creating its menu items; therefore, the specials are constantly changing.

Among the recent daily specials are Joseph’s combo sandwich, made with Italian sausage and prime rib in a marinara sauce with melted cheese served with hand-cut fries; Caprese salad; creamy baked prime rib pasta with sauteed mushrooms and green peppers in Alfredo sauce; Korean ribs; Cajun pasta with andouille sausage, chicken and shrimp in a creamy Cajun sauce; Tuscan grilled chicken with sun-dried tomatoes in a red pepper cream sauce over penne; double-boned pork chop; freshly made shrimp and pepper ravioli in Alfredo sauce; grilled barramundi with veggie rice; po’boy sandwich; and creamy pesto chicken.

The regular menu is full of delicious selections. Appetizers include fried calamari, bruschetta, fried mozzarella squares, toasted ravioli, and flatbread margarita.

Joseph’s homemade soup of the day and fresh salads are outstanding. The cream of jalapeno soup is very popular.

Entrees include gnocchi in a vodka cream sauce, eggplant parmigiana, fettuccini Alfredo with homemade sauce, lasagna, angel hair pasta, chicken Vesuvio, chicken Parmigiana, blackened salmon, Joseph’s colossal shrimp, filet mignon, steaks, sandwiches, burgers and more.

And for dessert, diners can indulge in homemade tiramisu, cheesecake, or chocolate cake.

A kids menu is also available, as is catering.

Happy Hour drink specials are also available daily.

And since great food goes best with great service, family-like customer service is Joseph’s top priority, which customers love.

“I just ordered from Joseph’s,” said one local resident on Facebook. “The food was yummy, and the Manhattans were delicious. Well organized as I picked up three orders. Great job!”
